New Traditions for the New Year

I've never been a big fan of the New Year's holiday. Sure, the parties can be fun, but there's always the transportation issue, drunk drivers on the roads, being out and about in the cold... it's just not for me. Plus, I hate the idea of starting off the new year with a hangover. I've had a couple of memorable New Year's experiences (Nick and I rang in 2003 at an exclusive and raucous street party in Scotland) and I've attended my fair share of house parties, but really it's always been kind of anticlimactic for me.

But! Now that we have these kiddos around we have a fantastic excuse to start a new New Year's tradition. Jack and I made a pinata in preparation for our 2010 fete.

Jack learned to use kid scissors for the occasion. He loves to do any sort of arts or craft project. I am hoping he will inherit some of Brent's artistic sense.

People keep dogging on 2009. I suppose it was a pretty rotten year for many, many people, but since it is Sawyer's birth year it has been a wonderful year for us. I won't lie, there was a lot of anxiety about having a second child so close to the first, and the first few months with little Sawyer were difficult. He was born screaming and didn't really seem to come up for air until he was about four months old. But he has become the smiliest, happiest, most lovable little guy. Now we can't imagine life without him. So for us, 2009 was a good one.

  1. Cassadie, I love this blog! Your photos are so beautiful, and your kids are going to cherish these stories someday.
I'm so glad that the little guy has come up for air and is his own happy self now. Niko was the same way.
    Happy New Year! love, Sally
